The influence of vibration and shock on the performance of relay


Environmental adaptability is one of the reliability indexes of relay. The difference of using environment and working condition has great influence on the performance of relay. 


The following describes the influence of vibration and shock on the performance of electromagnetic relay.


The contact reed of electromagnetic relay is mostly cantilever beam system with low natural frequency. Under the action of the external vibration close to or reaching the natural frequency, it will cause resonance, damage to the structure or reduce the contact pressure until instantaneous disconnection occurs, that is, jitter. The movable armature part will misoperate due to over vibration, which will cause poor contact or disconnection of the contact. 

The periodic force will make the structure loose or break off and cause the structure failure. 

Vibration and shock will change the mechanical characteristics of the relay and reduce the operation reliability. 

The residual loose particles (burrs, welding slag and material debris) in the relay will fall into the contact gap or rotating support under the action of vibration and impact, causing serious fault.
